Some Observations
The results of this phase of experiments did not reveal anything new , but confirmed the observations made in Phase I: body < Peep-Hole, as follows:
- The default value of 'overflow' property of the html is visible.
- Again, the default value of 'overflow' property of the body is visible.
-
Furthermore, the observation to the fact that the Default scrollbars belong to the html element, but are definitely controlled by setting of the that of the body element was further confirmed by the results of these set of experiments, where the "overflow" property of the html is set to hidden, there were no Default Scrollbars, but the Page was still scrollable, but only by the use of the arrow keys.
The scrollability via arrow keys is a illustration of the fundamental flaw in the Default Scrollbar Control scheme of this browser: The Default Scrollbars belong to one element (i.e. html), but are controlled by another (i.e. body). -
However, some "inconsistent" behavior also appeared:
- The auto & scroll values of 'overflow' property of the body element versus the default & visible values of 'overflow' property of the html element failed to activate the scrollbars of the body element.
- The auto & scroll values of 'overflow' property of the body element versus the auto & scroll values of 'overflow' property of the html element did activate the scrollbars of the body element. But the body element did not retain its specified height/width, but rather expanded with the height/width of #test.
