Some Observations:
-
The infamous, ever-present Default Vertical Scrollbar only happens if the 'overflow' property of the html element is not specified (i.e. default value). This is a deliberate Band-Aid ("Patch" as MS likes to call them) to avoid premature activation of the Default Horizontal Scrollbar.
This "Patch" can be Un-Done, and this ever-present Default Vertical Scrollbar can be removed easily and legally (i.e. without any hacks!), as discussed in detail, in The Disappearing Act. www.web-zonez.com/screen/100/dis1.html - Othervise, the set of results for the default and visible values of the 'overflow' property of the html were identical, which clearly indicates that the default value of 'overflow' property of the html is auto.
- Again, the set of results for the default and visible values of the 'overflow' property of the body were identical, which clearly indicates that the default value of 'overflow' property of the body is visible.
- All the test results clearly indicate that the Default scrollbars belong to the html element and are controlled by the setting(s) of the same.
- The body element extended vertically/horizontally up the limits of Peep-Hole, for the default and visible values of the overflow property in version 6. However, the body element retained its specified height/width in version 7, as it is expected to.
