Target versus Include Part 1 - The Difference
The most popular use of frames has been a simple two-frame page design, where the menu was targeted to (or inserted in) the left panel, and the actual page(s) was targeted to (i.e. inserted in) the right frame as dictated by the selection from the menu items. The main reason is to have a separate file for the menu, was to avoid the waste of time, not to mention the possibility of errors, in repeating the same menu in each actual file.
This illustrates the fact that, include and target concepts were assumed to be one and the same, in the application of frames. However, if we step back and ask a very basic question: Can it be done differently? The answers would be a simple: Yes! This answer is really based on distinguishing the difference between the target and include concept. Yes, there is a difference between the two, and a big one!
